At Hacketstown Stud Stables we welcome children and teens from 6-16 years of age, whether they are brand new to the saddle or looking to improve their riding skills.
Led by experienced and approachable BHS Instructors who offer a friendly and safe environment to learn and grow as a rider. Our teaching style is encouraging, practical, and tailored to suit each individual.

We offer lessons from Wednesday, through to Saturday every week!
Please get in touch to arrange times with us. We will first schedule an assessment of your child and then slot into our of our lessons at their level. See our competency levels below.

Competency Levels
Competency Levels
Level 1 and 2- Beginner
Level 1 and 2- Beginner
A rider who has never ridden or only ridden occasionally for example pony trekking on holiday.
May have tried trotting.
Beginner lessons (30 minutes)
Leve 3- Novice
Leve 3- Novice
A rider who is competent at riding a horse/pony at walk and rising trot can lead, mount, dismount, walk, trot, turn and stop a quiet horse.
May have tried cantering.
Novice lesson (30 minutes)
Level 4- Intermediate
Level 4- Intermediate
A person who is riding regularly that is competent at riding and can control a horse/pony at walk, rising trot and canter. Can lead, adjust girth & stirrups, mount, dismount, walk, trot, canter, turn and stop a horse.
May have tried jumping.
Intermediate lesson (45 minutes)
Level 5- Advanced
Level 5- Advanced
A rider who is competent & confident at riding a horse/pony at walk, trot, canter & gallop. Is confident jumping at 80/90cm and is ready to introduce lateral work.
Advanced lesson (60 minutes)

We require all clients to wear suitable footwear with a small heel.
We do not allow photography or videoing of children during lessons.
DUE TO HEALTH & SAFETY WE DO NOT PROVIDE HATS & BODY PROTECTORS. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN HAT / BODY PROTECTOR, WE ADVISE YOU GET YOUR HAT AND BODY PROTECTOR CORRECTLY FITTED AND THAT IS IS OF AN AIRE APPROVED STANDARD, PLEASE SPECIFY THIS WHEN BUYING.
Riding is a risk sport and therefore we advise everyone to have their own correctly fitted riding hat, body protector and personal insurance. We aim to provide suitable horses / ponies for every rider but horse riding does come with an element of risk as they are livestock with their own personality and temperaments and they may act in an unpredictable manner at times. Your safety is of utmost importance to us but falls can be an unfortunate part of the sport.
We will not be held liable for any injuries occurred here. You ride purely at your own risk and are advised to have your own personal insurance.
